International Philanthropy Sierra Leone West Africa

As I look at my schedule, preparing to get back on track after the several month pregnancy, birth, post pregnancy hiatus, my heart turns back to the work in Sierra Leone.

I was fortunate to trace my DNA ancestry to The Mende and Temne of Sierra Leone via the use of testing through African Ancestry of Washington D.C.

In addition to the rich Goliad Texas heritage of Lucy Sanders Perry, b.1822, Joe Perry, b. 1855, Arthur Perry, b. 1882, Otis Perry, b. 1921, and my father Edwin Perry, b. 1948, I have been fortunate to cross the Atlantic and find an ancestral home in Sierra Leone.

It is truly a bittersweet homecoming due to the ravages of a 12 year civil war which plagued the nation and left it a tattered economic state. Through the auspices of The Sierra Leone Africa America Assistance Foundation, my supporters and I will do all we can to bring some relief to my African homeland.

Blessings from Heaven Despite Delays and Set Backs!!!

The past few months have been somewhat trying, several things in my life have been put on hold, especially my recording project, but all for a great reason!

After believing it would not happen biologically, God blessed me to become a father.

The road was not easy, because my wife made great sacrifice and experienced great difficulty from the very beginning of the pregnancy.

A medical condition she's dealt with for several years and carrying twins made her a very high risk pregnancy.

She spent several weeks hospitalized on bed rest early on in the pregnancy, and ultimately delivered by emergency C-Section at 25 weeks gestation.

The result was two beautiful sons who were born at 1lb 11 oz and 1 lb 10 oz respectively. Edward Burkley II and Elijah Braxton spent several months in the NICU of Columbia New York Presbyterian's Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital in Manhattan.

They experienced breathing via respirator and CPAP oxygen assistance, multiple blood transfusions, ultraviolet light therapy, NG tube feeding, antibiotic therapy and a myriad of other medical treatments. While Edward fared quite well through it all, Elijah sufferred a grade IV Intraventricular Hemmorage, which has caused him to be diagnosed with hydrocephalus. He has has one cardiovascular surgery(PDA ligation) and four neuro(brain) surgeries resulting in the insertion and removal of a sub-galeal shunt, and presently two VP shunts, one on each side of his brain. He has been resiliant through it all and both are thriving by the wonderful grace of The Lord!

While I was fortunate to make great progress in the studio with Producers Steven Williams and Tarrence Farrell in Levite Music Group Studios, New York and Producers Eric"Booty"Greene Jr and Irv Washington of Endtyme Studios, Philadelphia and Producer Cecil"Phil" Phillips Jr, Oakland, I still have to complete final production, mixing and mastering of the project at Tate Music Group Studios. Pray my strength in the Lord.

Signed to Tate Music Group!!!

God never allows a door to shut, without opening a window, LOL! I was very disheartened because what seemed like a certainty for me to intern with Sony Music's Zomba Gospel Division, mysteriously fell through. Just as I was getting ready to feel sorry for myself, I received a fedex letter package which contained a recording contract offer with Tate Music Group! The position with Zomba I was expecting, the contract with TMG, I was not. Go figure?

The former seemed like a sure thing because I was called for an inteview with HR, obviously it went well, because I was called back for an interview with some of the executives from Zomba Gospel! I walked away beleiving I would start in the next two weeks, but it didn't happen.

With Tate, I was simply shooting the breeze with an acquisitions person out of curiousity, he listened to my material on MYSPACE, asked for my demo and after reviewing it FEDEXED me the contract. ........Romans 8:28 is definitely a true Word.
